News on environmental zones and air pollution
Darmstadt has installed a comprehensive sensor network in the city, which measures and controls environmental pollution. The aim of this ambitious digital project is to keep the emission of nitrogen oxides, CO2 and air pollution as low as possible. The sensors not only measure pollutants and fine dust in the air, but also humidity and temperature.
In addition to the City of Darmstadt, the Department of Transport and the Environmental Agency are in charge of this so-called "Digital City Project", which in turn is supported by the "Saubere Luft" (Clean Air) funding program.
