The German environmental badge (also named badge for fine particles) is mandatory for trucks, busses and cars willing to drive in the German environmental zones.

The European Emission Standards
The European emission standards “Euro” are definitions of the European Union which determine the maximum limit of pollutant emissions from vehicles. These norms use to get stronger and stronger for new vehicles. The aim is the reduction of air pollutants in the EU.
On the left you will find the present and future European emission standards for vehicles and their first registration date.
Supporting documents to order an environmental badge
If the vehicle was put on the road for the first time after 01.01.1997 for private cars (norm EURO 2 to 6), or after 01.10.1996 for trucks or buses (norm EURO 2 to 6), then only a copy of the registration document is required to order an environmental badge.
In case of an earlier first registration, then no environmental badge can be delivered. Please be aware that it is not possible anymore to go through German’s environmental zones with EURO 2 and 3.
A red or yellow badge will be allocated, but driving into environmental zones will be forbidden. There will be no refund of the purchasing price is possible.
If your vehicle does have a particle filter, then an evidence is to be enclosed to the environmental badge’s order.
