News on environmental zones and air pollution
According to two independent studies, the German government's current climate package is far from sufficient. The targets for 2030 are outdated and set far too low anyway, according to one of the two studies. The report, commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment and carried out by the Öko-Institut, concludes that in all six sectors - energy, buildings, transport, industry, agriculture and waste - the targets are not being met at present. "In total, there is a gap of around 70 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) compared with the targets set by the Federal Climate Protection Act, which is being emitted too much," the Öko-Institut is quoted by energiezukunft.de.
