News on environmental zones and air pollution
The speed limit on highways rejected by the German Bundestag a few days ago could have saved human lives, according to a data analysis by Der Spiegel. According to the analysis of the news magazine, a speed limit could prevent 140 road deaths a year.
While with a speed limit of 0.95 fatal accidents per billion kilometres occur, this value is 1.67 in sections without a speed limit (75 percent higher). Also for severely injured people, the figures on sections without speed limits would be almost 20 percent above the average.
