News on environmental zones and air pollution

Air pollution causes up to 33 million asthma emergencies

In Germany, the main issue is nitrogen oxide, even though the problem is broader. The risks associated with the inhalation of ozone, nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter have been studied. Together, these pollutants account for between 12 and 30% of all asthma emergencies each year, shared as follows: ozone (9 to 23 million cases), particulate matter (5 to 10 M) and nitrogen oxides (0.4 to 0.5 M). The figure is probably underestimated for nitrogen oxides. An effective air pollution control policy should therefore not be limited to diesel traffic restrictions alone.
