News on environmental zones and air pollution
Since the summer of 2019, Darmstadt has had a driving ban on old diesel and petrol engines. According to an enquiry by the Deutsche Presse Agentur, a total of 13,137 violations were noticed in during the controls. This makes Darmstadt the lone leader in the national comparison. In addition to the driving ban in the southern Hessian city, there are also prohibited zones in Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart, whereby the latter has been declared a driving ban zone for the entire inner city area. The total number amounts to over 16,000 violations.
