News on environmental zones and air pollution
The German environmental NGO Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) has again filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court against the city of Mainz. The DUH accuses the representatives of the city of refusing to implement the legally binding air pollution plan. Jürgen Resch, Federal Managing Director of the DUH, finds clear words: "The Mainzerinnen and Mainzer have a right to clean air in the entire city area. The limit value for the air pollutant nitrogen dioxide must be complied with as quickly as possible throughout the city. At the same time, the city is trying to ignore the extent of the situation on the ground. We demand the implementation of diesel driving bans by 1 January 2020 at the latest (...)".
